I have always been given an appointment on the same day,when phoning in the morning as an emergency. Drs listen and involve you in your treatment. I love the online service where you can order repeat presciptions and book/cancel appointments. I would like to see my blood results online eventually, rather than have to speak to a GP for results. Would free up the GPs precious time if we can see blood results and if they are flagged by GP as being abnormal then a phone call from GP/nurse would be appropiate first before putting them online for us the patient....I am totally happy with my GP practise.... nurses, GPs and receptionists etc

My wife & I have been patients at this surgery for over 34 years since we moved to the area. Over the past 5 years or so the service has improved significantly across the board despite the fact that we have both experienced various health problems. We particularly value the fact that there is now a pharmacy in-house, which makes collecting my own regular prescription much easier, & being able to have bookable blood tests is also very reassuring especially now that they are being withdrawn from Essex County Hospital & the drop-in centre, both of which are far less convenient to reach anyway. We are however very concerned that all staff are under relentless pressure, from receptionists onwards, which means that it is difficult to get through on the phone at times. On the odd occasion I have had to see a doctor, whilst waiting I have been struck by just how patient the receptionists are dealing with patients who are often very long-winded, difficult & occasionally downright rude. Theirs' is not a job I would like for all the world! The recent introduction of a single phone number for both surgeries has however helped somewhat as it does mean that it is possible to book an appointment in a single call, which was not possible previously. In addition my wife has occasionally asked that a doctor calls to discuss an issue & this has worked well. All in all, we can find no fault with the surgery on the quality of care, but because they are so good, it is sometimes difficult to get appointments. It is abundantly obvious that the addition of extra receptionists & at least one more doctor would relieve pressure all round, & presumably this is not possible at present due to shortage of funds.

A caring surgery, medical and nursing staff always professional. Non fussy waiting area, having a pharmacy at Ambrose surgery is rather convenient and useful. This group practice has served my family and I very well since 1989, we are lucky and happy to be on its book.

I spoke to the receptionist and she was pleasant and helped me to book two appointments for different things, one with a doctor and one with the nurse. I think having the nurse practitioners is an added bonus of the surgery as this free the doctors up for more serious illness. The addition of the pharmacy is very helpful for patients who cannot easily assess the town, and for working people this is time saving to be able to get your prescription quickly. Dr Soares always listens carefully to me and gives a very clear explanation. I always feel supported and am given good direction on what to do to get better and also when to return should I not feel better. All in all I have found Ambrose Avenue and Tollgate staff to be very helpful and am happy to have this as my surgery.
